Exchange review
Robinhood Europe - first Lithuanian MiCA exchange
Robinhood Europe, UAB is the first holder of a Lithuanian MiCA CASP licence (2025-05-30). A NASDAQ:HOOD subsidiary with a 0% fee model, mobile retail focus and EU passporting rights in 30 EEA countries

On 30 May 2025 Robinhood Europe, UAB became the first holder of a Lithuanian MiCA CASP licence, issued by Lietuvos bankas. The NASDAQ-listed Robinhood Markets subsidiary enters Europe with 0% explicit fees, spread monetisation (~0.65%) and a mobile-first retail focus. In this friendly review we look at how Robinhood EU fits Baltic users with its 30+ coin set, how it compares with Bitvavo and Coinbase, and why the spread is a hidden cost.
What is Robinhood Europe?
Robinhood Europe is the European subsidiary of the US fintech giant Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: HOOD), registered in Lithuania as Robinhood Europe, UAB. On 30 May 2025 it became the first holder of a Lithuanian MiCA CASP licence, issued by Lietuvos bankas. That is a serious event for the Baltic market - the official entry of the largest US retail crypto brand into Europe, via Vilnius rather than Ireland, Germany or Malta.
Thanks to MiCA passporting rights, Robinhood EU may offer services across all 30 EEA countries - including Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
0% fees - so who pays for them?
The Robinhood brand around the world rests on 0% explicit fees for retail trading. The EU version is the same:
- Spot maker: 0%
- Spot taker: 0%
- SEPA deposit and withdrawal: free
- Card deposit: 0%
- Crypto withdrawal fee: EUR 0 average
That sounds too good to be true - and partly it is. Robinhood uses spread monetisation at around 0.65% on buy/sell transactions. That means the price you see already includes Robinhood's margin.
Compared with Coinbase on the standard interface (~0.5-1% spread), Robinhood's spread is competitive. But Bitvavo at a 0.15% taker fee plus around 0.1% spread will usually come out cheaper overall.
Practical tip: Robinhood's 0% headline is a real saving, but verify the execution price against the market mid to see the real spread.

Who it fits
Robinhood EU is a good fit if:
- You are a beginner who likes a simple mobile UX without complex features
- You trade Bitcoin and Ethereum or popular altcoins from the 30-coin list
- You appreciate the transparency of a NASDAQ-listed parent (Robinhood Markets is a public company)
- You want simple EUR deposits and withdrawals via SEPA without bank integration
Robinhood EU is not optimal if:
- You want a broad altcoin selection (Bitvavo with 350+ or Kraken with 300+ are better)
- You need a local-language interface (Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian)
- You want BankID, MitID or Smart-ID authentication for local documents
- You deal in DeFi, staking or margin trading
- You want transparent Proof of Reserves
Safety reminders
1. Robinhood Europe will never ask for your password or 2FA code by email or phone. Any such call or message is a scam.
2. Robinhood's AML/KYC is stricter than the average EU exchange because of its US parent. Prepare for a deeper identity check on account opening.
3. The 0.65% spread is a hidden cost. Before a larger purchase, compare the actual execution price against the market mid on Coinbase or Bitvavo.
Summary
Robinhood Europe is a historic event in the Baltic crypto market - the first major US exchange licensed in Lithuania with full MiCA CASP status and EU passporting rights. It is a good pick for a beginner who values a simple mobile UX and NASDAQ transparency.
But for a more experienced Baltic or Nordic user with a wider altcoin portfolio, DeFi interests or a need for local-language support, Bitvavo, Kraken or Coinbase EU will usually be the better choice.
